Porro Commits Future to Spurs With New Long-Term Deal
Pedro Porro has put pen to paper on a new contract at Tottenham. The deal runs until June 2031, with an option for a further year through to 2032. Crucially, it includes a significant pay rise too.
For months, speculation moved around Porro’s future. Manchester City showed strong interest in the right-back, given his connections to their academy system. Real Madrid were mentioned as well, at various points. Yet, despite all the noise, an exit was never really on the cards.
Sources close to the situation describe Porro as “untouchable” under Roberto De Zerbi. That word says it all, really. Whatever interest came from elsewhere, Tottenham simply weren’t entertaining offers.
Porro’s current deal had been set to expire in 2028. With interest mounting from elsewhere, though, Spurs moved immediately to secure his long-term future. Now, that uncertainty disappears completely.
The 26-year-old arrived from Sporting CP back in January 2023. Since then, he’s made over 150 appearances for the club. His numbers tell a story of consistency, too: 13 goals and 26 assists across that stretch.
Beyond the stats, Porro’s importance goes further. He created more chances than any other Tottenham player in the Premier League last season. For a side searching for attacking spark, that’s invaluable.
This new deal arrives at a crucial moment for the club. Tottenham have already added Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi this summer on free transfers. Now, locking down an existing star feels like the missing piece. A statement of intent, undoubtedly, from a club determined to build something permanent.
A Key Cog in De Zerbi’s Rebuild
Porro’s rise at Tottenham hasn’t happened by accident. Since joining from Sporting, he’s become one of the squad’s most reliable performers. Few outfield players have featured as consistently.
Last season proved a mixed bag for Spurs overall. Domestically, results disappointed, with the club finishing well below expectations. However, amid that struggle, one shining moment stood out: Tottenham’s Europa League triumph.
Porro played a starring role in that run. He featured in the final victory over Manchester United, helping Spurs lift their first European trophy since 1984. For a club starved of silverware, that night meant everything.
Currently, Porro’s form continues on the international stage. He’s part of Spain’s World Cup squad this summer, featuring regularly under Luis de la Fuente. That kind of exposure only raises a player’s profile further, and clearly, Tottenham took notice.
Meanwhile, the larger picture at Spurs looks increasingly clear. Robertson and Senesi have already arrived. Talks continue over Jan Paul van Hecke too. At the same time, exits loom for Cristian Romero and Radu Dragusin in the coming weeks.
Amid all that change, though, Porro represents stability. De Zerbi clearly built plans around him, and now those plans have certainty attached. For supporters, that should offer real reassurance heading into a key campaign.
Other contract circumstances remain unresolved. Richarlison, Dane Scarlett, and Ben Davies all enter the final year of their deals. Whether they follow Porro’s lead, though, remains to be seen. For now, at least, Tottenham have their key man locked down. Untouchable, just as planned.
