Celik Seals New Deal In Capital

Zeki Celik has agreed to sign a new contract with AS Roma, with the deal now all done and set to be sealed shortly. The Turkish full-back reached an agreement worth close to €3 million net per season, a modest increase on his previous terms. 

He becomes the first among Roma’s expiring contracts to secure fresh terms this summer. Gian Piero Gasperini pushed hard for the renewal, viewing Celik as a reliable, versatile presence in defence. 

Negotiations had stalled earlier this year, with Celik’s camp reportedly seeking closer to €4 million annually. Roma held firm around €2.5 million initially, prompting interest from Juventus, Fulham, Newcastle, and Stuttgart. Ultimately, the two sides found middle ground, and Roma successfully avoided losing a key defensive asset on a free transfer. 

Celik is expected to return to Trigoria later this month, just before the club’s summer training camp in Wales begins.
