Still, flashes of his old quality emerged, including a brace and assist during a 3-1 win at Chelsea in May.
For Coventry, this represents a calculated gamble rather than a guaranteed upgrade. Lampard isn’t signing the unstoppable version of Awoniyi seen during his finest Forest campaign. Instead, he’s backing a 29-year-old attempting to rebuild momentum after two genuinely disrupted years.
