Bournemouth Land Rodriguez, Complete Rose's First Deal

Cherries Complete First Signing Under Rose

Bournemouth have officially completed the signing of Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche. The deal, worth £21 million plus bonuses, marks new head coach Marco Rose’s first summer addition at the Vitality Stadium. Elche retain a sell-on clause, ensuring further compensation should the striker move on again down the line.

This isn’t a fresh discovery for Bournemouth, though. The club has tracked the 21-year-old Uruguayan for some time, and Rose himself knows him well, having previously attempted to sign him elsewhere. That familiarity likely smoothed negotiations considerably, giving Bournemouth confidence in a player already proven capable in La Liga.

Rodriguez arrives fresh off an impressive campaign, scoring seven goals and providing five assists across 34 appearances. Notably, he found the net against both Real Madrid and Barcelona, evidence that big occasions don’t rattle him. Real Madrid, incidentally, will also benefit financially here, having retained a 50 percent sell-on clause when they sold him to Elche just last year.

Not a Replacement, a Complement

Crucially, Bournemouth aren’t viewing Rodriguez as a substitute for Eli Junior Kroupi, whose long-term future remains uncertain amid continued transfer speculation. Instead, the club sees him as complementing Evanilson, adding competition and tactical flexibility up front rather than simply plugging a gap.

That framing matters. Rather than reshuffling their attacking hierarchy entirely, Bournemouth appear focused on building depth capable of handling a demanding season. With European qualification firmly in their sights, having multiple credible forward options could prove decisive.

Rodriguez has signed a long-term contract running through 2031, giving Bournemouth stability at the position for years to come.
