Nico Paz wants one more year in Italy. Since last week, the Argentine has made his preference clear to Real Madrid: stay at Como for another season. Talks between both clubs, however, continue. Nothing is done yet.
A Brilliant Season Changes Everything
Paz’s campaign at Como exceeded every expectation. Under Cesc Fàbregas, the 21-year-old produced 13 goals and eight assists across 40 appearances, earning a Serie A Team of the Season nomination. More importantly, he helped fire Como into the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history.
That context matters enormously. Paz arrived as a promising Madrid academy product. He leaves this season as one of Serie A’s most exciting players. Naturally, his desire to stay reflects a player who feels settled, valued, and developing in the right environment.
The Bernardo Silva factor accelerated that feeling. Once Madrid secured the Portuguese star on a free transfer from Manchester City, Paz read the room quickly. Jude Bellingham and Arda Güler already occupy his natural position at the Bernabeu. Consistent minutes at Madrid look unlikely. Another year in Como, by contrast, offers Champions League football and guaranteed centrality. Easy choice.
Madrid Hold All the Cards
Despite Paz’s preference, Real Madrid retains full control here. They hold a €9 million buy-back clause, plus 50 percent of any future sale. Nothing moves without their approval.
Mourinho has reportedly been consulted. Madrid appear willing to accommodate Paz’s wishes, recognizing another year of development benefits everyone long-term. Still, formal agreement between the clubs hasn’t arrived yet. Talks continue, all parties remain in contact, and the final solution is still being shaped behind the scenes.
Patience, for now, guides this one.
