Consequently, Ruben Dias now emerges as the clear frontrunner for the captaincy, following Bernardo Silva’s summer move to Real Madrid. Dias has already demonstrated the system in action, jogging toward the touchline for instructions after City’s opening goal during a recent pre-season fixture in Seoul.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wider Leadership Picture Still Forming<\/b><\/h2>\n

Maresca hasn’t rushed his final decision, though. He’s currently assembling a broader leadership group, with Haaland, Dias and Rodri among the senior figures under consideration. However, Rodri’s own future remains uncertain amid persistent Barcelona interest, adding further complexity to City’s captaincy plans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Notably, Maresca has also expressed a desire to include at least one English player within that leadership circle, potentially opening a path for Phil Foden. “At the moment, we have three or four captains and we are missing one,” Maresca admitted, acknowledging the process remains ongoing.<\/span><\/p>\n
