Lucien Agoume

Sevilla has reportedly offered midfielder to Manchester United as the Spanish side looks to raise funds before their financial year ends on 30 June.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has been one of Sevilla’s most consistent performers since joining permanently from Inter Milan in the summer of 2024, but the club’s financial pressures have prompted talks of a potential transfer.

Reports suggest Sevilla have told United that Agoume is available for around €25m (£21.6m), with his current contract running until June 2028.

The situation is complicated by Inter Milan’s own clause, meaning Sevilla would receive only half of any future transfer fee. As a result, the Andalusian club seeks lower rates to help balance the fiscal year-end figures.

Agoume’s Impressive Sevilla Numbers Attract Premier League Interest

Agoume enjoyed the 2025-26 campaign, establishing himself as a key figure at the base of Sevilla’s midfield. He featured in 36 matches across all competitions, making 34 appearances in La Liga and two in the Copa del Rey.

During the season, he scored once and recorded four assists while playing more than 2,800 minutes. His passing accuracy ranged from 81% to 84%, underscoring his role as a distributor from deep positions.

Defensively, the Frenchman delivered impressive numbers. He made 163 defensive contributions, including 87 clearances, 33 successful tackles, and 140 ball recoveries.

He averaged more than five ball recoveries per 90 minutes and won 56.8% of his aerial duels, placing him among Europe’s strongest defensive midfielders in that category.

Manchester United View Agoume as Long-Term Midfield Solution

Across his Sevilla career, Agoume has made 81 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and registering seven assists.

His performances have attracted attention from several clubs, including Manchester United. Manager Michael Carrick is assessing options to strengthen the midfield, especially after veteran Casemiro’s departure, and Manuel Ugarte’s future is uncertain.

Agoume has reportedly been identified as a potential long-term successor in the holding midfield role, offering a blend of physicality, defensive awareness, and progressive passing.

Manchester United’s interest intensified after the club explored alternatives to Carlos Baleba, whose valuation put him beyond the club’s preferred spending range.
