Barcelona have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen but remains focused on pursuing Julián Álvarez.
According to Diario Sport, intermediaries recently presented Osimhen’s availability to Barcelona as the club seeks a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Osimhen’s Strong 2025–26 Campaign
Osimhen had a strong season with Galatasaray, recording 22 goals and eight assists in 32 appearances across all competitions in 2025-26.
He registered 15 goals and five assists in 22 Süper Lig matches and added seven goals and one assist in 10 UEFA Champions League games.
Barcelona Prefer Álvarez Over Osimhen
Despite his performance, Barcelona are not currently considering Osimhen as a primary transfer target.
Instead, the club has identified Álvarez as their preferred option to lead the attack in the coming years.
Álvarez’s Impressive First Season at Atlético Madrid
Álvarez contributed 20 goals and 10 assists in 45 appearances for Atlético Madrid last season.
He scored eight goals and provided four assists in La Liga, added 10 goals and five assists in the Champions League, and contributed two goals and one assist in the Copa del Rey.
Difficult Negotiations for Barcelona
Barcelona’s interest in the former Manchester City forward is well established, but any transfer remains complicated.
Reports indicate Atlético Madrid has already rejected a €100 million bid from Barcelona for the 26-year-old, highlighting their determination to keep one of their key attackers.
Osimhen and Álvarez Offer Different Qualities
While Osimhen outscored Álvarez in 2025-26, the two played different tactical roles.
Osimhen played primarily as a traditional striker, averaging more than one goal contribution per 90 minutes for Galatasaray.
Álvarez featured in various attacking and creative roles for Atlético, combining scoring with playmaking throughout the season.
Barcelona’s Striker Decision
Barcelona’s search for a new striker is expected to continue this summer, but for now, their focus remains on Álvarez rather than Osimhen.
