Chelsea have placed a firm £25m valuation on centre back Axel Disasi, and the door out of Stamford Bridge is now wide open. Xabi Alonso wants a leaner, sharper defensive unit this season. Disasi, once a £38.5m signing from Monaco, no longer fits that picture.

The Frenchman has trained apart from the first team this summer. A permanent exit, not a loan, remains Chelsea’s clear preference. Financially, it makes sense too. Thanks to amortisation rules, Chelsea would turn a tidy profit on any fee above roughly £23m. Hence the round £25m figure being floated to suitors.

Two Serie A heavyweights have already come calling. Roma have opened talks with both Chelsea and Disasi’s camp, hoping to find a workable structure. Milan, meanwhile, are reigniting interest first shown back in January, when a move collapsed late in the window.

Suitors Face A Tricky Negotiation

Neither Italian club appears eager to meet Chelsea’s number outright, though. Roma reportedly favour a loan with an option to buy, a structure that would ease the financial strain of West Ham United’s exit clause. Chelsea, however, want certainty and full value now.

Disasi’s recent history complicates things further. Loan spells at Aston Villa and West Ham followed a rocky first season in London, and his market value has since dropped sharply. Still, there’s genuine substance underneath the struggles. He impressed during his time at West Ham, and Roma clearly see enough there to keep pushing.

West Ham themselves have also made contact, though the player reportedly has no appetite for a return to the Championship. That leaves Roma and Milan as the realistic paths forward, assuming either can bridge the gap between ambition and asking price.

Meanwhile, Alonso is already lining up replacements. Chelsea remain keen on free agent John Stones and Crystal Palace’s Maxence Lacroix, according to multiple reports. Both would bring different qualities to a back line under construction.
