Aston Villa have confirmed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea, with a conditional obligation to buy attached. That timing wasn’t accidental, either. UEFA regulations treat transfers between the same two clubs within 45 days as a potential “player exchange transaction” if payment structures align too closely. Consequently, Villa structured Garnacho’s arrival as a loan rather than an immediate permanent sale, protecting the accounting benefit of their Rogers windfall.
Sources close to the negotiations describe the buy clause as easily achievable, hinging on straightforward appearance thresholds. Given Emery’s clear intention to build his attack around Garnacho, triggering that obligation looks like a formality rather than genuine uncertainty.
Villa’s business doesn’t stop here, though. Emery remains keen on further Chelsea departures, including Nicolas Jackson, whom he knows well from their time together at Villarreal. For now, though, Garnacho represents the headline addition, arriving with genuine point to prove.
