A Reward for a Breakthrough Season
Abdukodir Khusanov has signed a new five-year contract with Manchester City, extending his stay until June 2031, with the option of a further year. The deal replaces his previous terms, which had been set to expire in 2029.
His rise has been rapid since arriving from Lens in January 2025. Khusanov quickly became a trusted figure, forming a solid centre-back partnership with Marc Guehi through the second half of last season. He started 16 of City’s final 19 Premier League fixtures, a remarkable turnaround after a difficult introduction to English football.

Director of football Hugo Viana didn’t hold back either, calling Khusanov a player with all the tools to become a world-class centre-back. That endorsement carries weight given City’s recent defensive turnover, with both John Stones and Nathan Ake departing this summer.
His extension arrives just days after Phil Foden signed his own new four-year deal, continuing a busy week of contract business at the Etihad. Elliot Anderson’s British record £116 million arrival from Nottingham Forest adds further context to City’s summer rebuild under Maresca.
Beyond club duties, Khusanov also represented Uzbekistan throughout their group stage campaign at the 2026 World Cup, adding valuable international experience to his rapid development. At just 22, he already looks like a long-term fixture at the heart of City’s defence.
