Brazilian Star Rules Out Istanbul Move

Gabriel Martinelli has firmly closed the door on a switch to Turkey. Despite Galatasaray tabling a formal £38 million offer, the Brazilian winger has told Arsenal management he simply isn’t interested.

Sources indicate Martinelli never viewed Turkey as realistic, not at this stage of his career. He prefers remaining in the Premier League or joining another top-five European league eventually, should he leave north London at all. That stance hasn’t wavered despite Galatasaray’s aggressive pursuit.

The Istanbul giants clearly wanted him badly. Their proposal, worth around €45 million, arrived as Arsenal weighed several attacking decisions this summer. Leandro Trossard already departed for Besiktas, while Christos Tzolis arrived from Club Brugge to strengthen the left flank. Consequently, Arsenal’s forward line looks noticeably different heading into the new campaign.

Martinelli, though, remains a different case entirely. He joined Arsenal back in 2019 as a relative unknown from Ituano and quickly became a genuine fan favourite. His best campaign came in 2022-23, netting 15 Premier League goals, a joint-record haul among Brazilians in English football history.

Since then, his output has dipped somewhat, prompting speculation around his long-term role. Still, personal preference matters here, arguably more than valuation gaps or squad planning alone.

Arsenal face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 16, adding further pressure onto an already hectic window. Decisions around Martinelli’s future likely won’t rush forward before then.
