Konsa Completes £51m Move To Arsenal

Deal Confirmed After Medical Success

Ezri Konsa has completed his move to Arsenal from Aston Villa, with the final transfer fee for the 28-year-old defender set at £51 million plus £4 million in add-ons. The England international underwent his Arsenal medical yesterday and has now signed a four-year contract, with the option of a further year.

Speaking after finalising the move, Konsa couldn’t hide his pride. “It’s a proud moment for me and my family to play for one of the best teams in the world,” he said. “I want to keep winning, hungry to win and that’s what I’m here for. I’m here to win. I’ll do everything in my power to continue bringing success to this club.”

Notably, negotiations weren’t entirely straightforward. Villa had initially rejected an opening £30 million bid, holding out for closer to £60 million given Konsa’s importance to their backline. Arsenal eventually found a compromise through dialogue at ownership level, meeting Villa’s demands with a significantly improved package containing add-ons.

Sporting director Andrea Berta praised the defender’s profile directly. “Ezri is a defender of high quality, whose athleticism, composure and tactical intelligence have established him as one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers,” Berta said, highlighting his versatility across both centre-back and right-back positions.

Debut Delayed Until Trip To Villa Park

Konsa’s arrival addresses a genuine defensive need at Arsenal, with William Saliba sidelined by a back injury and Jurrien Timber continuing his recovery from a groin problem. However, having missed Thursday’s registration deadline, Konsa won’t feature in Friday’s Premier League opener against Coventry City.

Instead, his Arsenal debut could arrive fittingly against his former club, with the Gunners travelling to Villa Park for Monday Night Football on August 31. Konsa made 286 appearances for Villa since joining from Brentford in 2019, also collecting 28 England caps along the way.

His World Cup credentials only strengthen his case, having started every match for England through their semi-final defeat to Argentina. He becomes Arsenal’s fifth major summer signing, according to Sky Sports, following Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier, Christos Tzolis and Bruno Guimaraes.
