Clubs Reach Agreement in Principle
Real Madrid have struck an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig for Yan Diomande, according to breaking reports circulating Saturday. The move caps a frantic few weeks of negotiations, with the Ivorian winger already holding personal terms in place on a five-year contract running through 2031.
Madrid’s pursuit accelerated rapidly after initial offers fell short of Leipzig’s valuation. An opening bid worth roughly £85m was turned down earlier this month, forcing Los Blancos to return with an improved structure closer to €115-120 million including add-ons. That revised package appears to have finally bridged the gap between both clubs.
Diomande’s decision represents a dramatic twist given his earlier trajectory. PSG had long been considered favourites, having secured their own verbal agreement with the player back in June. However, Madrid’s late surge, reportedly disguised behind ongoing Michael Olise speculation, ultimately swayed the 19-year-old toward the Bernabéu instead.
His rise through the ranks has been extraordinary. Signed by Leganés as a free agent in 2024, Diomande moved to Leipzig for around €20m last summer after a standout Segunda División campaign. He then delivered 12 goals and nine assists in his debut Bundesliga season, catching Europe’s attention almost instantly.
Mourinho Eyes Immediate Attacking Boost
José Mourinho, Madrid’s new manager, reportedly views Diomande as central to reshaping his attacking options. His pace and directness should add fresh dynamism to a frontline already featuring Vinícius Jr, Endrick, and Franco Mastantuono, though squad rotation questions will inevitably follow.
Manchester City and Arsenal also registered interest during the chase, with City reportedly offering close to €100m at one stage. Neither club could match Madrid’s late momentum, though, once personal terms with the player were finalised.
