Cole Palmer has issued a light-hearted warning to new Chelsea teammate Morgan Rogers over their shared goal celebration. The two friends, reunited at Stamford Bridge after Rogers’ club-record move, both perform the same shivering gesture whenever they score.
Palmer trademarked the celebration with the UK’s Intellectual Property Office last year. Consequently, he now holds legal bragging rights, despite Rogers technically pulling off the move first in a professional match. Joking about the rivalry, Palmer insisted bailiffs would show up at Rogers’ door if he kept using it.
Old Friends, New Teammates
The pair grew up together in Manchester City’s academy before their paths diverged. Rogers left first, eventually starring for Aston Villa, while Palmer built his reputation at Chelsea. Now, following Rogers’ £117 million switch, the friendship continues in the same dressing room.
Throughout the summer, the two exchanged constant messages as speculation grew. Palmer admitted he kept texting once he heard Chelsea were pursuing the move, adding that Rogers eventually grew tired of the persistence. Nevertheless, the secret held. Nobody outside the two players and senior club staff knew the transfer was close, according to Palmer.
Interestingly, Rogers arrived later than the rest of the squad. He earned extra time off after representing England at the World Cup this year. Therefore, supporters have not yet seen the duo train together, though anticipation is building fast.
A Celebration Built for Two
Despite the jokes, Palmer says there is no real dispute between them. In fact, he expects them to celebrate together once Rogers returns to full training. Both players clearly view the trademark as a running gag rather than genuine friction.
