Karim Adeyemi has made his decision. The German winger will not extend his contract at Borussia Dortmund, instead pushing firmly for a move to Barcelona. He has already informed BVB directly, leaving no ambiguity about his intentions.
Personal terms fell into place quickly. Adeyemi agreed a long-term contract with Barcelona, working closely with coach Hansi Flick, someone he knows well from Germany’s national setup. Only Barcelona interests him this summer, according to multiple reports.
Barcelona Push Hard, But Fee Remains Unsettled
Barcelona submitted an official bid worth around twenty million euros, plus a future sell-on percentage. Dortmund, meanwhile, continue valuing their winger at roughly forty million euros, creating a substantial gap between both parties.
Several factors weaken Dortmund’s negotiating position, though. Adeyemi enters the final year of his contract, and his performances have fluctuated across recent seasons. Missing Germany’s World Cup squad through injury only added further uncertainty around his market value.
Agent Jorge Mendes has proposed this move before, previously blocked by Barcelona’s financial restrictions. Now, operating under La Liga’s more flexible spending rules, the Catalan club finally sees room to complete a deal. Should terms align, Adeyemi could join Barcelona’s preseason training as early as next Monday.
Crucially, this pursuit won’t derail other plans. Barcelona’s hierarchy insists Julián Álvarez remains their primary target at center forward, a pursuit dating back to May. Signing Adeyemi complements that ambition rather than competing against it.
Dortmund now face a difficult choice. Sell now for a reduced fee, or risk losing their winger for nothing next summer.
