Mendy

Fenerbahce are preparing an ambitious move for Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy, with the Turkish club stepping up efforts to secure the experienced defender ahead of the new season.

According to reports from Turkey, Fenerbahçe sporting director Mario Branco is leading negotiations for the France international, whose future at the Santiago Bernabéu remains uncertain following an injury-disrupted campaign.

Mendy’s Uncertain Future at Real Madrid

Mendy’s position at Real Madrid has come under scrutiny after a season largely derailed by recurring muscular problems. The arrival of Jose Mourinho has added further uncertainty, with it still unclear whether the new Madrid manager views the defender as part of his long-term plans despite the player being under contract until 2028.

The 31-year-old endured one of the most frustrating seasons of his career in 2025-26. Persistent thigh and hamstring injuries restricted him to just five La Liga appearances, amounting to only 208 minutes of league football.

Strong Numbers Despite Injury Issues

Despite his limited involvement, Mendy continued to demonstrate the qualities that have made him one of Europe’s most respected defensive full-backs. He maintained a pass completion rate of 95 percent in La Liga and 94 percent in the Champions League.

Successful Real Madrid Spell

A move away from Madrid would bring an end to a highly successful spell in the Spanish capital. Since arriving from Lyon for an initial fee of around €48 million in 2019, Mendy has made more than 175 appearances for Los Blancos and played a significant role in one of the club’s most successful modern eras.

During his time at the Bernabéu, he has won two UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga crowns, two UEFA Super Cups, a FIFA Club World Cup, a Copa del Rey, and three Spanish Super Cups.

International Success With France

His achievements also extend to the international stage, where he was part of France’s UEFA Nations League-winning squad and has earned 10 senior caps for his country.

Real Madrid Consider Alphonso Davies Alternative

Should Real Madrid decide to sanction his departure, the club could revisit their long-standing interest in Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.

The Canada international has remained a priority target for several years and could become available this summer, particularly following Bayern’s impending acquisition of Nathaniel Brown.

Mourinho Faces Defensive Decisions

Mendy’s future is expected to be one of several defensive issues Mourinho must address before the new campaign begins. While the Frenchman remains one of the game’s most accomplished defensive full-backs when fully fit.
