From Standoff to Agreement
It looked like it was heading one way. For months, Konrad Laimer and Bayern Munich were locked in a stubborn contract standoff, with a significant salary gap threatening to end a partnership that had quietly become one of the most important in the Bundesliga. Now, the saga is almost over.
Kicker reports that an agreement is at the final stages, with only small details left to resolve before Laimer puts pen to paper. The deal will extend his stay in Munich beyond his current contract, which runs until 2027. Bayern are not losing this one.
The turnaround is remarkable. Earlier this spring, the Bavarians were prepared to sell rather than meet what they considered excessive demands. Laimer wanted closer to 15 million euros per year. Bayern were offering up to 12 million. Neither side was budging.
That is where Uli Hoeness stepped in. The Bayern honorary president personally intervened, set firm financial limits with the player’s agents, and helped break the deadlock. His involvement proved decisive. Financial differences have since been resolved and a broad agreement reached. A raise from his current 9 million euros per year up to 12 million appears to be the settled figure.
A Key Piece Stays Put
Laimer has been indispensable under Vincent Kompany. The Austrian international made 136 appearances for Bayern since joining in 2023, operating as first-choice right-back and occasional midfielder throughout the 2025/26 campaign. His energy, aggression, and versatility made him one of the most reliable performers in Kompany’s system.
Losing him would have created a real problem. The right-back position had already been a trouble spot, with Sacha Boey failing to deliver and Josip Stanisic returning from a loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen. Keeping Laimer removes a major squad headache heading into next season.

The announcement could be delayed slightly. Laimer is currently at the World Cup, captaining Austria in their first tournament since 1998. But the business is essentially done. Bayern have their man. Long term.
