The Wait Is Over
Enzo Maresca has been confirmed as Manchester City’s new manager on a three-year contract, returning to the club where he previously worked as an assistant to Pep Guardiola. Official. Done. The open secret is now public.
Compensation talks between City and Chelsea had delayed the formal announcement for several weeks, but the deal itself never wavered. Maresca was always the man. City knew it. So did everyone watching.
The Italian arrives with serious pedigree. He won the Conference League and Club World Cup during 18 months in charge at Chelsea, and before that, he guided Leicester to Premier League promotion at the first attempt. Trophy winning. Serial. Ambitious.
In his first words as City boss, Maresca set the tone immediately. “Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me,” he said. “City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation.”
Third Spell, Clear Ambitions
Maresca wasted no time naming his targets. Winning titles. Playing beautiful football. Both, together. That is the brief.
“This will be my third spell at Man City. I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City,” he added.
Maresca first takes charge on August 1st when City face Internazionale in a preseason tour in South Korea. His first competitive fixture arrives at Wembley on August 16th in the Community Shield against Arsenal, before a league opener at home to Bournemouth.
Big tests come fast. No settling-in period. City expect to win, and Maresca knows it better than most.
