Juventus Push for Martinez as Talks Continue

Juventus have made direct contact with Emiliano Martinez’s camp. Fabrizio Romano reports the Argentina goalkeeper remains their top target, though a final agreement still depends heavily on Aston Villa’s stance. Personal terms, notably, already sit in place.

Martinez has verbally agreed to a three-year contract worth around €5.5 million net per season, running through 2029. That figure represents a genuine pay cut from his current Villa Park wages, signaling real intent from the goalkeeper himself.

Villa’s Asking Price Remains the Obstacle

Club-to-club negotiations, however, tell a different story. Villa continue demanding a fee somewhere between ten and fifteen million euros, according to multiple Italian outlets. Juventus, constrained by missing Champions League qualification this season, have struggled to match that valuation comfortably.

Martinez turns thirty-four this September, a factor Juventus weigh carefully against any significant transfer fee. Still, his pedigree speaks volumes. He helped Villa lift the Europa League last season, even playing through a broken finger during that triumphant run.

Romano’s latest update confirms talks will likely wait until after the World Cup concludes fully. Villa’s asking price remains unchanged for now, and little pressure exists forcing their hand. Martinez, after all, sits under contract and remains a senior figure within Unai Emery’s squad.

Should this pursuit stall completely, Juventus maintain a credible fallback option. Guglielmo Vicario, open to leaving Tottenham, has emerged as a serious alternative for Luciano Spalletti’s goalkeeping search. Napoli’s Alex Meret also lingers as a third possibility, given Spalletti’s past working relationship there.

For now, patience defines this saga. Juventus want their preferred target, yet won’t overpay for a player entering his final competitive years.
